Dakota Prairie Composting (DPC) was one of the first enterprises where I served as the primary designer in my role as Graphic Designer at the SMSC. DPC is a large-scale composting facility in southern Minnesota—standing as both a steward of the land and a leader in sustainable waste management. Their mission is to transform organic materials into high-quality soil amendments, keeping waste out of landfills and restoring soil health to create thriving landscapes the way nature intended. As the largest organics recycling facility in the Midwest, DPC is not just a composting site—it’s a beacon for environmental renewal.
SCOPE
Support the transition from SMSC Organics Recycling Facility (ORF) to DPC and the grand opening of Dakota Prairie Composting by activating and extending the visual brand—creating cohesive, on-brand materials for public launch and ongoing communication. This included refining brand assets, rebranding old projects from ORF to DPC, establishing templates, and producing designs across digital, print, and environmental formats.

brand context
The brand was originally developed by designer Maguire Hatala, and I stepped in during the transition from ORF to DPC to help bring it fully to life. My role in the DPC Working Group was to expanding on the existing foundation—developing marketing materials, campaign visuals, and on-site applications that reflected DPC’s values of sustainability, renewal, and impact.
